ICC Committee Action Report
This report documents the first round of actions taken by the Residential and Commercial Committees. ICC will be preparing a public review draft and open a public comments period of 30 days later this year (tentatively mid-November). Public comments will be limited to changes that were approved by the committees.
According to their 2023 data U.S. Energy Information Administration residential and commercial buildings still account for 36.9% of total U.S. energy consumption.
The International Code Council’s International Energy Conservation Code serves as the national model code for residential construction and ASHRAE Standard 90.1 serves as the national model code for commercial construction.
These codes are being updated every 3 years. Some versions with little and some versions with more improvement.
How EECC is Participating
EECC supports the development of energy codes that aim to construct new buildings and changes to existing buildings to conserve energy.
We want our buildings to stop wasting energy. This is primarily accomplished by insulating, and air sealing the exterior shell of buildings to lower heating and cooling needs. It also requires the use of efficient HVAC, water heating and lighting systems.
EECC continues to be an active participant in code development by providing testimony, research, public comments, and through committee participation.
